Meadowport Arch

Meadowport Arch 12″x 11″ oil on wood panel The Meadowport Arch was the first source of inspiration for me to want to paint in Prospect Park, in Brooklyn, NY.It is an old limestone archway with vehicle and pedestrian traffic on top and it’s inside is lined with cedar. The Meadowport Arch is also notable for its two entryways. I set out early on this hot summer’s morning. The park was quiet and the trees were starting to wilt in the heat adding strength to the organic feel of the arch. The blue hues in the shadows gave them a mysterious sense of...

Endale Arch

Endale Arch 12″x11″ oil on wood panel What a beautiful day to go out and paint plein air. It was a warm day but I was painting from the shadows in Prospect Park in Brooklyn, NY. Echo Arch

Echo Arch 12″x11″ oil on wood panel This arch was fun to paint. I arrived late in the afternoon and was pleasantly surprised with the clarity and intensity of light and color stretching from the footpath through the arch and into the park.

I would smile and say that I love to paint when it’s so quiet, just me and nature.

Dog Beach 180

Dog Beach 180 12″x11″ Oil on wood panel During the painting of Dog Beach my eyes kept going back to a space in the woods, just to the left of a small orange leaved tree. The next day I worked my way into that space with my easel and was pleasantly surprised a the vista before me. The rolling landscape in the background a tree clustered middle ground, full of color with leaves beginning to fall. Unlike Dog Beach Autumn, the sky on this day was cloudless and the only movement in this scene was provided by a current in the...
